Even though the voters didn't approve the recent recall election, many turned out to vote for the candidates. In fact more people voted for the candidates than against the recall. There does not seem to be any 'mandate' for Jerome Kern, rather a generalized dissatisfaction with government in general. Thank you to all who exercised their right to vote! We supported our goal of bringing democracy to Oceanside. I am so grateful to everyone who supported me and the campaign- the donors, phone callers, walkers- those who visited people's homes, followed and caught a sign thief, had fundraisers and coffee meet & greets, wrote letters and forum pieces, and even those who took the time to talk to some negative people about the truth and the facts. I appreciated your help more than you can know. You were all troopers and contributed so much! Currently I'm evaluating various options to see how I can best serve the citizens of Oceanside and bring our town back together. Your life is far more valuable than any landscaping project!We cannot ethically afford to choose landscaping over human life. While I'm excited about the "Future" of Oceanside, we must take care of our residents now!
As a City we cannot afford to invest in any "future" projects while we fail to provide adequate emergency coverage for residents TODAY. When it comes to spending money, I personally choose to spend it wisely and have a trained, qualified paramedic respond to '911' calls.
I request that the City officials immediately stop spending money on projects like new landscaping along Oceanside Boulevard. We must restore our safety services to the minimum levels in place before cuts were approved by Mr. Kern.
We must spend our money appropriately and I promise you I'll be a fiscal conservative when it comes to spending! No more plants over people spending!

Dear Chuck, I am once again inspired by your spirit and the work you
do. When such things happen as this defeat at the polls, I think it is
important to remind ourselves of what was accomplished anyway. The community
came together for this. Such support would have been unimaginable in the old
Oceanside that we are both old enough to remember. Wendell Berry, one of my
favorite poets, also farms (with horses!) the same land his father and
grandfather farmed before him. He says that a farmer's true crops are himself
and his soil. If that were not true, he would have to commit suicide every time
it hailed! Congratulations on your real accomplishments. You have improved the
soil we all share considerably. I'm sure you will find the experience has grown
your own capacities for working for change as well.
