Fiscal Accountability
I was raised in Oceanside and I learned to understand the value of the dollar. I built a wholesale bakery from the ground up, employing over 20 people who made wages far above the minimum. After 22 years in business, I recently sold my successful bakery so I could devote my time to community service. I've been a businessman my entire adult life. I have the talent, technical savvy and understanding to take us through Oceanside's current economic crisis. I will always make responsible decisions with the best interests of the community in mind. The City budget is over $300 million each year yet some council members spend it like it will never run out I will use our limited city funds to ensure essential services are provided for all residents. I have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this community because I believe in Oceanside and its people. I will scrutinize the annual Budget and will be as cautious spending City funds as I am in my own business transactions. Proposition K- I am against Proposition K. Not one resident had an opportunity to have input on this very important document, one that changes the way Oceanside operates. For more info: click here. Veterans & The Military As
a native of Oceanside and son of a veteran, I know the sacrifices made
by those who served and are currently serving. Veterans are
underrepresented at all levels of elected office and I will ensure
Veterans have a voice in our local government. For several years I've underwritten a healthy snacks program for school children of active-duty military on Camp Pendleton, working directly to support these members of our community. I will also work to make sure our Veterans are recognized for their service and sacrifices and that military families are taken care of. Veterans for Chuck, 2010 Seniors Oceanside has an aging population and we need to provide for our seniors. I will ensure there are ample opportunities for seniors to participate in the community, and I will work to preserve and protect our current programs. I will also work to improve Open and Accountable Government The citizens of Oceanside deserve an open, accountable, and ethical government. I will listen to the citizens to understand what is needed. The records of city actions are public information and should be posted on the City’s website. I plan to create and maintain my own City Council website to keep the residents of Oceanside informed. I will send out email updates to anyone who signs up in order to keep them informed about current issues and what we can do to address them. Please, return right now to the home page of this website and sign up to receive campaign updates by mail. Development, Economic Prosperity & Our Neighborhoods I grew up in Oceanside and I know how important it is to maintain the character of our neighborhoods. I understand the need for prosperity without sacrificing the things we all love about Oceanside. Good, high paying local jobs bring benefits to our community that are essential and sustainable. Oceanside needs development projects of all kinds: commercial, residential, professional, arts & technology, you name it. I will work to create the best new projects to provide better jobs that benefit the entire city. That means no new concrete plants, no new asphalt factories, no new HEAVY industry. Other cities turn down such projects and so should we. Oceanside deserves the best projects that will help retain the integrity of our neighborhoods. Youth In
addition to supporting youth programs, I have taken other other steps to
improve our community. I have underwritten a non-violence
program in Oceanside schools to educate students about the dangers of
gangs. This helps everyone in Oceanside by reducing crime and creating
more safety while our children receive the great educations they deserve. I like working with kids to explain the importance of safety and their community and how this helps them get a better education.Environment The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the earth we live on must be preserved for our children as well as those who live here today. While Oceanside is a relatively good steward of our beautiful coastal environment there are many simple steps that can be taken to improve Oceanside's environmental future-- I will work toward that goal to ensure a sustainable future. I will work to develop partnerships with businesses that want to give back to the community and implement programs to benefit the environment. Traffic It’s time to get serious about traffic. Every new building project, every new housing area adds to the load on our local streets and highways. It's time we had a thoughtful, updated traffic plan that works for our city and our neighborhoods. Its time to make our communities walkable and safe for pedestrians and bicyclists, too. Education My daughter and I are proud graduates of Oceanside's public schools, including Oceanside High and MiraCosta College. I know how important it is to maintain great schools and to offer the opportunities our children need to be successful in the future. Though the schools are operated with State and Federal funding, Oceanside must provide support to keep them going and growing. I continue to fund a youth non-violence awareness program in seven Oceanside Unified Schools because all children deserve to be safe at all times so they will get the most out of their educations. I will always strive to keep our our libraries open and accessible Public Safety You deserve to feel safe wherever you go in our City. Public safety needs to be a priority and as our population grows and ages, our City Services need to be able to keep up with resident needs. You deserve to have a police officer come to protect you when you call and to have a paramedic or firefighter come quickly in an emergency and be able to administer life-saving medications. We cannot afford to 'outsource' these essential services to profit-motivated companies. If you or a family member need help you deserve the best. Oceanside has its own Police, Firefighters and Paramedics- I want to keep it that way. I thank you in advance for your support. Please invest in the community we all love by making a donation now.
